6-8” new snow Still a midwinter snowpack Minimal sun affect Textured ice crust where no new snow was deposited (crampons & ice axes required) Windslabs of variable depth (6” to 3’) on N-NE-E aspects Shooting cracks while skinning across planar and convex features Large cornices forming on leeward slopes. Many large, pillow like slabs below start zones of gullies New snow bonding poorly to old snow surface. Small windslabs are easy to trigger on steep slopes With the upcoming warming, poor bonding, large cornices forming and widespread windslabs, caution is warranted
