Quick report
Wanted to get this in last night but better late than never. All about to change but wanted to send a quick note anyways. Headed south after seeing that the recent slider produced several inches of low density snow and light winds. Suspected that I could drive well past the normal winter access to Green Creek, and was pleas to find that I could drive to within 1 mile of the summer TH in a 4 wheel drive pickup. ~4" of super low density snow at the trailhead. Skinned the road to the bottom of the GCC and crossed the creek easily. A little schwacky through the aspens but short lived. Climbed straight up the chute. Was happy to have crampons for smooth wind board underneath 6-8" of snow throughout the 2500' vertical of the run. I was hopeful that the NE winds showed some mercy after this storm, and was happy to find minimal wind effect throughout, even at the ridgeline at 11k. Skiing quality exceeded expectations, but still dust on crust. Bed surface was smooth and edgeable. Loose dry problems were not as touchy as expected, but likely wouldve been more if I skied steeper than 38 degrees or so. Some rotten snow and localized collapsing in the valley bottom and trees, but most of the subsurface snow I interacted with seemed to be dense, variable and wind affected. Overall, pretty excellent half-day outing after nearly a month long drought
