Quick report
We went for a quick tour looking for soft afternoon surface conditions in the north Dunderberg area.
With hot temps and overnight lows in the mid 40's we sought after low angle north facing terrain. Flat terrain and lower elevations held punchy snow even in morning hours. When we ascended a north aspect above treeline, the snow surface remained firm and a light breeze kept us cool. As soon as we reached a saddle and moved on to flats or south facing snow, the temperature felt hot and snow was soft and punchy again.
By 1 PM or so, the low angle north aspect we descended had softened enough for enjoyable corn turns.
Motorized travel is currently challenging due to road access. V lakes Rd is still closed but has large areas of bare pavement and alternate routes make travel through unsupportable snow and navigation through thin conditions necessary.
