Quick report

A gorgeous day with lots of sunshine and cool temps The sun really started to impact the southerly aspects making the snow wet and sticky. Eventually rollerballs and very small wet loose slides were the norm.

Just a few very small wet loose avalanches off of very steep rocky terrain.

Amazingly nice day! Mostly sunny with a few bands of passing clouds. Cool. Light breezy. Lots of sunshine.

Snowpack

Northerly: Very cold dry snow still exists on shaded slopes. Generally, we found 6-8oin (15-20cm) of right-side-up snow over the Early February Crust (EFC) A thin, crust sandwich was evident at the base of the new snow.

Southerly: The sun really started to take its toll on the surface snow on southerly aspects. It became wet heavy and sticky while we were in the field. Snow began to shed from trees, rollerballs released from rocky faces, and we triggered small rollerballs on very steep slopes.

Early February Crust: (EFC): This layer is still very firm and icy. Travel in the trees and on steeper slopes remains challenging on this slick layer.

Avalanche

Avalanche activity was limited to a few very small wet loose avalanches from steep rocky terrain.
