Considerable new snow from the last storm. This new snow is consolidating into a slab sitting on top of a deep weak layer. A quick pit showed 4 finger hardness down to a small layer of fist hardness. Failure on this fist layer during a column test. As the day warmed up, we had around 5 instances of snowpack collapsing and whumphing. We avoided slopes steeper than 30 degrees and stuck to low angle trees.
