Weather

Sunny, warm, moderate to strong west winds with active snow transport observed near the reservoir and near tree line.

Snowpack

There was 4-7 inches of recent snow decomposing in all of my snow pits today. The first snow pit I dug was on north facing aspect at 10,800ft where I found a height of snow around 200cm. Digging 60cm down I found F hard facets 24cm down sitting on top of rounding facets and a P hard slab. Extended column tests (ECTs) did not produce propagation on these facets. On northeast aspect near tree line, I dug in both deep and shallow places and found 4F facets about 25cm down. ECTs in a deep snowpack (over 250cm) did not produce propagation on these facets (ECTN23). ECTs on shallow northeast snow (less than a meter) did not propagate on 4F facets, but on depth hoar with a score of ECTP24@12cm. In an east-facing snow pit near tree line, I found 4F facets buried 30cm down. Extended column tests here did not produce any propagation, with scores of ECTX.
