Snowpack

The mountains still have very little snow cover. We toured between 6500-7000 feet. Generally, we observed an average of 6" of snow on the ground. Shaded pockets were holding a bit more. The current snowpack consists of crusts and facets, with about 3" of weak snow at the surface (surface hoar and near-surface facets). Once new snow arrives, the poor structure of the current snowpack will likely not support a heavy loading event (i.e. a lot of snow at once).
