Quick report

Skied the bottom half of Silver Star, up to about 6100'. Skinned up on a wonderful bed of 8-12" fresh dry powder....unfortunately it was all on top of a very solid crust. Skiing was kinda rowdy, since I was completely bottoming out on crusty ice nodules. At one point I thought I had hit a granite boulder... but had actually just hit a large ice mound. Couldn't get anything to move since a storm slab hadn't really formed up, but skinning across anything over about 30° and you'd have full sloughage down to the firm and icey crust below. I'd imagine the steeper slopes will be touchy with more snow showing up in the coming days. Forest conditions sliIiightly better skiing than open slopes.
