Quick report
The day started off at -10F and rose to 39F degrees by the afternoon. Wind was calm. We traveled between 5800 and 8200 ft. Despite a lack of new snow, we still found the snow to be cold and soft on N aspects. Surface hoar was plentiful throughout the day. Traveling on S aspects, we noticed that micro-shifts in aspect caused the snow to vary between soft and sun-crusted. We traveled out of avalanche terrain for the vast majority of the day and experienced no signs of instability. Short periods of time on slopes >30 degrees yielded the same observations--no signs of instability.
