A large natural avalanche occurred in Ragged Bowl (east of Raggedtop peak) in the Girdwood Valley on January 26, 2025. Debris ran further than has been seen in many years (over 20?). Debris ran over one unoccupied garage/structure that was built into the hill for such an event. One vehicle was damaged. As far as we know, no other structures were impacted and no persons were involved. It is hard to tell in the photos how much of the bowl released. The avalanche occurred on the third day of a very warm, wet, and windy storm. Snow sensors at Alyeska measured close to 6" of SWE and 4-5 feet of dense snow for the storm when the avalanche happened.
