Quick report
Skied W Face of Granddaddy, ascending via Bertha Creek descending via Spokane Creek. Weather: Sunny, skies with 5 - 10% cloud coverage with some thicker clouds beneath us in distant valleys. Winds around 5 mph gusting to 10-15 on the ridgeline of Granddaddy. 0 - 10 mph wind in the valleys too above about 2,600 ft. Temps 10F at trailhead at 0920, it felt like it remained around 10-15 the whole ascent up as we gained elevation maybe at the same pace the day was warming. Of course, when we finally crested the ridge into the sun it was very comfortable. Snowpack: As observed going from lipps up bertha creek drainage then up granddaddy N ridge. 800 - 1300' lots of surface hoar overlaying facets/decomposing snow. Ski penetration around 6-9". 1300' - 2,500'. Surface snow facets/decomposing snow with ski penetration around 5-8". Isolated, small, and unreactive windslabs here and there. 2,500' - 3,500'. Surface snow still primarily facets/decomposing snow but a little more wind effect here and there with some intermittent wind crusts or wind slabs. Ski penetration around 5 - 8". Looks like maybe 1" of snow moved around over the last 24 hrs based on snow over the skin track. There were sections small windslabs atop facets that were unreactive too. 3,500' - 3,800'. Ascending to the pass between Granddaddy and Pastoral. Snow was extremely firm and wind affected with ski penetration less than an inch. Booted the last 50 feet of this. 3,800' - 4,700': Ridgeline was firm old/progressively wind-loaded snow with some sections of rime ice here and there. The S aspect of Granddaddy was a little scoured against the ridgeline, with maybe some sections of melt-freeze from I suspect constant sunlight and the recent inversion. Ski down W face Granddaddy. Inconsistent snow. Still predominantly soft but some wind buff and 1" thick wind skins. The sub peak E of the ridgeline of Pastoral that's steep and rocky had point releases from most of the cliff bands. One section had a large mound of older-looking debris from what I suspect is either cornice collapse/point releases, or maybe a storm/windslab towards the end of the last storm.

Recent point releases off rock bands in steep southern slopes. Old mound of D1.5/D2 avalanche debris on subpeak of Pastoral.
