Three of a group of 4 riders climbed a steep slope. The lead rider turned out and started downhill when the slope failed. The first two riders managed to rise off the moving debris while the third who was closer to the bottom of the slope was carried ~140' and buried approximately 3' deep. The fourth rider who has no avalanche training rode up to assist in the rescue. After a very confusing initial search and panicked digging, the party realized that the fourth riders beacons was transmitting. The team resumed digging and within 10-13 minutes uncovered the riders head. The buried man was barely responsive but ultimately responded when a rescuer asked him to "Blink if you can hear us." The team couldn't place a 911 call and their InReach subscription has expired. The team has openly shared their experience to help others avoid similar mistakes.
