Quick report
Went out to BT on Fri and Sat, both days were all-time spring days with awesome corn following solar aspects. We saw the slide near Cayuse Crater mentioned in another report. That ridge always develops a massive cornice, and seems like it drops some big chunks every season. We rode an adjacent slope and while still somewhat of a distance away could see huge chunks in the runout, which was surprisingly low angle. Fortunately not really ideal ski terrain since it’s such a short pitch. There were also slide debris below Pucker Up, but they looked “old” and the chunks were rounded off. I know for a fact it was there at least since Wed since it could be seen from Bachy. My guess is it came down during the rain event last weekend, probably a big cornice fall. What was weird was the entire upper half was totally smooth… but if it happened over the weekend that would make sense due to the refresh on Mon. A few people skied it on Fri and it looked good as long as you avoided the debris. We went to check out the SW face, which held first class corn (and world class views!) around 1:30. Went back on Sat because the upper part of Pucker looked so good I had to come back. Entered from an alternate entrance which was nice and smooth, so nice I had to do it again. Lots of people out that day following solar aspects and getting great turns. No instabilities noted either day (oher than the evidence of previous slides mentioned), if anything the risk was taking a slide for life early in the day trying to skin on the frozen solid snow. Surprisingly good refreeze both nights. Of course everything has changed with the arrival of new snow… again.
Avalanche
Saw debris from cornice collapse near Cayuse Crater (mentioned in another report), and also old-ish debris below Pucker Up.
