The thinnest of high thin overcast for the morning. A subtle dusting of snow from overnight was noticed at my max elevation (5000ft). It was hot.

Snowpack

The day started out with a superficial freeze even at the lowest elevations. East and south aspects softened quickly- stepping out on them from 10am onwards was unsupportable. As the few hours that we were out progressed, flat surfaces from 4000-5000ft, where we spent most of our time, became less supportable.

At all but near 5000ft, well transitioned melt forms were are the surface. I dug at 5000ft and found a crust from the previous few days at the surface with soft snow beneath it. Feet sunk through this layer, and it felt different from the lower elevations that had the Early April Crust at the surface and moist and loose well transformed melt forms beneath that crust.

Overall, while we were out (morning hours) we didn't see any avalanche activity and we weren't yet concerned about slopes becoming too soft and unsupportable where we were.

Avalanche

Only a few small rollerballs from last few days visible on steep pitches, all aspects, where I traveled.
