Quick report

Despite above-freezing temperatures for the last couple of days, I found a 2-inch, supportable crust on all aspects in the morning, which suggests that the snow is still cooling off and refreezing during the nights. I did see some roller-balls on east aspects at mid and upper elevations. Some appeared to be from yesterday or Monday and mostly looked to be caused by some skiiers. Others were forming below steep, rocky terrain and increased throughout the day.

It was a balmy day in the mountains. At 9am, air temp was 49F at the Anthony Lakes Parking Lot and it rose to 53F by mid-afternoon. Skies were partly cloudy in the morning and cleared throughout the day. Winds were light and variable with a couple of moderate gusts.

Snowpack

I dug on a SW and a N aspect, both just below 7600.' I did not find the Valentine's Day buried surface hoar layer in either location, but I did still find several layers of weak faceted snow sandwiched between old melt-freeze crusts down 1-3 feet deep. These layers appear to be less reactive in snowpack tests than they were a few weeks ago. However, the structure of weak snow beneath well-consolidated slabs should still warrant caution.
