Quick report
Went to Hope Valley to conduct USFS snowmobile training and found extremely icy conditions to start the day. Broken scratchers and machines running hot were the theme of the trail ride to the zone. We did find some soft, faceted snow in the shaded areas along with plenty of bare ground and open creeks nearby. The melt/freeze crusts varied throughout the day and had definitely softened by the afternoon, providing a few good turns for a novice crew. Temps were about 16 to start the day and had risen to about 62 by the time we loaded up. No signs of instability.
