Avalanche Activity

CM for 27/2/22 Limited thin new windslab N to E aspects above 950m. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Limited thin accumulations of new moderately bonded windslab on North to East aspects above 950 metres, mainly coire rims and gully exits. Further consolidation of snow and better stability on most other aspects and altitudes. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light snow showers throughout with rain at lowest altitudes. Strong South winds easing and becoming moderate South-South-Easterly later. Freezing near summits though falling to 800 metres overnight and during the morning. Observed Weather Influences: Light precipitation falling as sleety snow near summits and rain at lower levels. Very strong South-West airflow. Freezing at summit level.

ObservedSnowStability: Some new humid windslab but only on very sheltered North to East aspects above 1050 metres. Elsewhere the older snowpack is moist but reasonably consolidated. Glide cracks starting to open on some very steep East aspects at around 800 metres. Cornices below 950 metres are moist and weak. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
