Avalanche Activity

The surface of the snowpack will soften later than the day before. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The avalanche prone locations are rather rare and are easy to recognise. In particular on sunny slopes and at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain individual mostly small natural moist avalanches are possible. Backcountry tours and off-piste skiing should be concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. In some places wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. The mostly small wind slabs are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. In addition the danger of moist avalanches will increase as the day progresses.
