Moderate avalanche danger - Fresh snowdrifts at high altitudes

Avalanche danger above 2000m is moderate, at lower altitudes danger is low. Main danger stems from freshly generated snowdrifts at high altitudes on extremely steep E/S facing slopes in entry zones, where low additional loading by one sole person can trigger a slab avalanche Most releases remain small.

Snowpack Structure

Stormy northerly winds continue to transport the cold snow, deposit drifts behind abrupt drops in the terrain. Bonding is mostly good, also there are weak layers inside the fresh fallen snow. The fundament is thoroughly wet up to at least 2200m.

Weather Synopsis

On Wednesday residual clouds on the northern flank of the Alps will disperse swiftly, the day will become sunny. Convective cloud build-up is expected during the daytime, but no precipitation is expected. At 2000 m: -8 degrees. The N/NE winds will be moderate. On Thursday, cloudless skies to start with. Then clouds will move in. Winds will shift to NW, blow at moderate strength.
