Avalanche Activity

At intermediate and high altitudes a considerable avalanche danger will prevail.

As a consequence of new snow and wind from southerly directions, avalanche prone wind slabs formed. This applies in particular on steep slopes, as well as in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain also at intermediate altitudes. The fresh wind slabs can be released by small loads. The avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers in particular on steep shady slopes. Maintaining distances between individuals and one-at-a-time descents are recommended.

Snowpack Structure

Up to 10 cm of snow fell yesterday. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind, further wind slabs formed on Tuesday. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on wind-protected shady slopes. Intermediate and high altitudes: Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on very steep shady slopes.
