Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Accumulations of fresh unstable windslab will develop mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and gully tops will be most affected particularly where accumulations develop over old snow. Cornice stability will remain poor. Old snow ice will become very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Rain will turn to snow as the freezing level drops, light snow fall expected throughout the day above 800 metres. Gale force winds throughout, South-South-West around dawn, veering to the West in the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A wet day with the freezing level rising above the summits in the afternoon. Strong winds from the South. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is wet and soft becoming firmer with altitude. The snow cover remains generally well bonded. Cover is still reasonable above 850 metres on West through North to East aspects. Stability of remaining cornices are suspect. The avalanche hazard is Low.
