Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs at intermediate and high altitudes.

In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation more avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they can be large in isolated cases. New snow and wind slabs can over a wide area be released by a single winter sport participant and reach large size in isolated cases. In the regions exposed to a lot of new snow this applies especially above approximately 2200 m and.

Snowpack Structure

20 to 40 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2200 m. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. This applies especially at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions, along the border with France. Towards its surface, the snowpack is soft and has a loosely bonded surface. The snowfall will give rise as the day progresses to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack.

Tendency

Over a wide area moderate northwesterly wind.
