As the Madeleine Mines sector received significantly more snow than the rest of the area, the problem of wind slabs is more pronounced there.
Slabs formed at the top of the slopes, mainly on the east, south, and west sides, following snowfall from Monday evening to Wednesday. Ranging in thickness from 20 to 50 cm, they could still be reactive to skiers on Thursday.
With the wind shifting to the south, the snow forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday could be transported to the north-facing slopes, promoting the formation of new wind slabs. These would likely be smaller but potentially more reactive. The extent of this problem will depend directly on the actual amount of snow received.
