Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations instabilities associated with a buried layer of faceted snow persist. Hard slabs up to four feet in depth could be human triggered on steep slopes especially by larger triggers such as snow machines. Northerly and easterly aspects appear to be more prone to these instabilities, however slope failure on other aspects is possible. The nature of this instability may allow multiple skiers or riders to cross an unstable slope before it fails. The consequences of triggering one of these hard slabs are severe. At low elevations, avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack. The Teton Mountain Lodge is hosting a benefit for the avalanche center on Saturday from 2 to 6 PM. This event will include entertaiment, beverages, appetizers and a raffle for some awesome gear.
