Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations DANGEROUS unstable slabs lie upon weak layers of faceted snow near the base on the snowpack. Slabs to eight feet in depth have been triggered on a variety of aspects. North through east aspects have been the most active with numerous releases on approach. Yesterday a 16 inch deep slab was skier triggered on a southeast aspect in the Pinedale/No Name drainage. During the past 24 hours strong west-southwest winds have loaded starting zones. These deposits may allow skiers and riders to venture further onto dangerous slabs before they are triggered. At the lower elevations isolated pockets of slab could be triggered on steep wind loaded aspects after crusts have softened.
