Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard will rise to MODERATE. New snow and westerly winds have created easily triggered soft slabs on steep, lee slopes at the higher elevations. Cold temperatures have developed strong melt-freeze crusts in most areas capping off the deeper instabilities in the snowpack. Slopes with good sun exposure may see those crusts break down and should be avoided.

Sunshine on new soft snow will create the possibility of natural and human triggered loose wet avalanches on steep slopes by afternoon.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Light snowfall will end by midnight then a high pressure ridge will move into the area bringing dry conditions for Tuesday. Temperatures will warm to the mid 20s and winds will be westerly at 10 miles per hour. The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be MODERATE at upper elevations in the Tetons and LOW in the Greys River and Togwotee Pass areas. Backcountry travellers will have the potential to release soft slabs to 10 inches in depth on steep lee slopes. Wet loose slides may become a hazard by afternoon on steep, sunlit slopes.
