Pockets of unstable snow persist at the upper elevations and could be triggered by the weight of a person. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid and lower elevations.
At the upper elevations pockets of wind slab one to two feet in depth could be human triggered in steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones.
Northwesterly flow aloft will bring increasing cloud cover during the day on Thursday, and light snow showers will develop in the afternoon and continue through the evening. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near 20 before rising into the mid-20s during the day. Westerly ridgetop winds will range from 15 to 25 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE above 9,000 feet and LOW below 9,000 feet. Backcountry travelers venturing into steep, wind-loaded terrain at the upper elevations might be able to trigger pockets of surface slab up to 18 inches deep.
