Lo esencial

Snowfall and strong northwest winds have formed surface slabs in steep wind loaded terrain. Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger these slabs as well as older slabs that lie upon persistent weak layers with in the snowpack at the mid and high elevations. Avalanches at low elevations are not expected today except for isolated pockets of loose snow sluffs and very small surface slabs.

    Strong northwest winds and new snow have formed wind slabs at the mid and upper elevations. These slabs could have depths to eighteen inches and will be most sensitive along ridge crests and peaks where the most significant wind loading occurred.

    Persistent layers of faceted snow lie in the snowpack. Slabs could be triggered by backcountry riders in steep avalanche paths with depths that could reach four feet. These older slabs could be triggered after initiation of a new wind slab, by a single person hitting a weak spot in a steep rocky area or by larger loads such as snow machines.
