Lo esencial

Abundant sunshine and warm temperatures will soften snow surfaces and increase the hazard. At the upper elevations isolated pockets of hard wind slab could be triggered by skiers or riders who venture into very steep chutes, cliff areas and near cornices. Monitor conditions and watch out for areas of unstable snow in very steep terrain after snow surfaces become soft.

Isolated pockets of wind slab up to two feet in depth could be triggered by humans who venture into very steep chutes, onto and beneath cornices and into cliff areas. Sunshine and increasing temperatures will increase the sensitivity of these shallow slabs to human triggers.

Large cornices exist and could fail during the heat of the day. Avoid cornices and the slopes beneath those cornices.

Avalanche Discussion

A new weather system is approaching the region. Clouds will increase overnight. Snow showers are likely in the mountains on Wednesday with some rain showers at the lower elevations. Several inches of new snow accumulation are likely at the higher elevations by evening. Temperatures will be in the 20s in the mountains and in the 30s in the valleys. Winds will be westerly at 20 with gusts to 30 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the Teton and the Southwest Trails/Greys River areas. A MODEATE hazard is expected in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass areas where some potential for deep slab avalanches may persist in isolated areas.
