Lo esencial

In some localities increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches on very steep sunny slopes.

Avalanche Activity

In some localities increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches on very steep sunny slopes.

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack on steep sunny slopes below approximately 2800 m. In the other aspects and at higher altitudes the snowpack is dry. As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be an increase in the danger of gliding avalanches and moist snow slides within the current danger level. This applies in particular in case of releases originating from very steep, sunny starting zones that have retained the snow thus far. The wind slabs are to be found especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. They are mostly small and can be released in isolated cases. These avalanche prone locations are to be found on very steep slopes. In addition small wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas on Friday.

Snowpack Structure

In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Below approximately 1500 m: No snow is lying on south facing slopes. The snowpack is largely stable. It is not distinctly layered. In particular sunny slopes: As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures and solar radiation a crust formed on the surface during the last few days, also above approximately 2300 m. Some gliding avalanches and moist snow slides have been released on very steep sunny slopes.

Tendency

Decrease in danger of moist snow slides as the temperature drops. During the day: In some localities a little new snow above approximately 1800 m. The avalanche danger will persist.
