Yesterday a snowmobile triggered avalanche was reported on a north aspect at 9,800 feet. This avalanche failed on weak snow 3 feet below the surface. All riders involved in the avalanche were unharmed. This incident is a good reminder that despite a generally Low avalanche danger, there still exists the remote possibility of triggering an avalanche in steep upper elevation terrain. The exact location of this avalanche is still to be determined.
This avalanche highlights the need to remain vigilant, even in times of Low danger. Remember to only expose one person at a time, use islands of safety and watch your partners when entering into avalanche terrain. The reporting party of this incident did a good job of following safe travel practices and preventing the entire party from injury or burial. Thank you to the party for reporting this avalanche.
