Lo esencial
Firm, variable travel conditions continue to plague the mountains of the East South. Despite the low danger, you could still find small slabs of wind drifted snow in high alpine terrain. The firm surfaces combined with the low coverage could exacerbate the consequence of a small avalanche.
Avalanche Discussion
Unfortunately, we’re not adding much new snow to freshen up our firm refrozen snowpack across the East South. Your main hazard will likely be harsh travel conditions and firm riding.
A few things to keep in mind during periods of low danger:
- Despite the lack of new snow, you may still find small, isolated wind slabs at upper elevations. While these slabs will remain small and the size of a kitchen table, they could still be consequential in steep terrain, especially with the current slick surfaces.
- Keep track of wet surfaces under your feet or machine. You could trigger small wet avalanches if you notice rollerballs shedding or your boot penetration exceeding your ankles.
- Lower elevations and mid-elevation S and W aspects have limited snow coverage. You may even find bare ground near sno-park elevations in the Ahtanum area. Expect shallow coverage, open creeks, and other low tide hazards.
