Lo esencial

Moderate SE winds picked up over night combined with small amounts of new snow bringing the hazard to moderate for upper elevations today on Douglas.  Snowfall amounts will be highly variable across Douglas above the rain line but where more snow fell small human triggered avalanches are possible in fresh storm slab.

New storm slab is dependent on how much new snow was received in specific starting zones but combined with strong SE winds it is possible to see this on only the upper elevations, potentially being reactive to skier/rider/snowmachine triggering.

  • Loose Wet

Wet loose activity is possible but should remain small in size, warm temps and and rain saturated snow will be the driver of this as solar will be limited by cloud cover.

Avalanche Discussion

New snow amounts are right on the edge of having enough snow to create a storm slab however combined with the SE winds I've decided to list it as a problem and raise the hazard to moderate for only the uppermost elevations of Douglas.  If you decide to brave the wet today and get up high there is potential to  encounter some reactive storm slab. The snowpack at lower and mid elevations is thinning rapidly across Douglas and many non avalanche hazards exist like exposed dirt, trees, rocks, and open creeks and water.
