Avalanche Activity

Moist snow slides during the day require caution. Old wind slabs in particular on wind-protected shady slopes.

The avalanche conditions in the morning, after a clear night, are generally favourable. In particular very steep sunny slopes: As the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist snow slides. These can be released by people, but they will be small in most cases. The clearly visible wind slabs of last week can still be released in some cases in particular on wind-protected shady slopes and generally at high altitude. In isolated cases the avalanches in these loacations are medium-sized.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow and wind slabs of last week have bonded quite well with the old snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. Above approximately 2000 m there are 30 to 50 cm of snow. In all regions at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.

Tendency

Wednesday: Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind. The danger of moist avalanches will decrease gradually.
