Avalanche Activity

Wet-snow and glide-snow avalanches

Avalanche danger is generally low. Due to rain impact, increasingly frequent wet-snow avalanches in steep terrain and glide-snow avalanches below 2600 m are possible in starting zones which have not yet discharged, mostly small releases, sometimes medium. Avoid zones below glide cracks.

Snowpack Structure

A bit of fresh snow at high altitudes, rain made the snowpack forfeit its firmness, it is becoming ever wetter, even on shady slopes. At night a melt-freeze crust can often form. Below 1500 m there is little snow on the ground.

Weather Forecast

Nocturnal hours: Showers will taper off, residual clouds disperse. Friday daytime: Residual fog will persist in the morning, cirrus cloud pass through, hampering the sun somewhat. At 2000 m: -2 to +5 degrees. Light northerly winds.

Tendency

A marked cold front will move in during the course of the day on Saturday, bring plummeting temperatures, stormy gusts, precipitation (amounts still uncertain). Depending on fresh snow and winds, avalanche danger could increase.
