Lo esencial

The snowpack will be in most cases stable. Mostly small gliding avalanches are possible on very steep grassy slopes.

Avalanche Activity

The snowpack will be in most cases stable. Mostly small gliding avalanches are possible on very steep grassy slopes.

The old wind slabs are mostly easy to recognise and can only be released in isolated cases. This applies in particular in extremely steep terrain in particular above approximately 2000 m at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to significant consolidation of the snowpack in particular on steep sunny slopes below approximately 2200 m. As a consequence of rising temperatures and solar radiation a crust formed on the surface during the last few days. This applies in particular on steep slopes below approximately 2200 m. Old wind slabs have bonded well with the old snowpack in all aspects. Snow profiles and stability tests have confirmed the favourable bonding of the snowpack on steep slopes. Individual weak layers exist deeper in the snowpack on steep shady slopes. Below approximately 1400 m only a little snow is lying. Little snow will fall in some localities.

Tendency

As a consequence of falling temperatures the snowpack will consolidate. On Saturday it will be mild. The weather conditions will foster a rise in the avalanche danger in particular on very steep sunny slopes.
