Avalanche Activity

Slab avalanches and moist and wet avalanches are possible.

Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the old snowpack adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In particular on near-ridge slopes the avalanches can be triggered in the various wind slab layers. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation individual wet and gliding avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small. This applies especially in steep rocky terrain.

Snowpack Structure

Snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. As a consequence of rising temperatures and low stratus a crust formed on the surface. This applies in particular on steep slopes below approximately 2500 m. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack especially on steep west, north and east facing slopes.
