Lo esencial

At the upper elevations, above 9,000 feet, pockets of slabs to eighteen inches in depth could be triggered by users on steep, north to northeast facing slopes or cliff areas. Larger triggers, such as snow machines or groups, may be necessary to release avalanches. The snowpack is mostly stable at mid and low elevations where avalanches are unlikely except in cliff areas or in extreme terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

Following light snow overnight, a new storm system will move quickly into Western Wyoming by Thursday afternoon with the potential for significant snowfall through Friday morning. This storm is to be warmer with mountain temperatures Thursday afternoon reaching the mid twenties while southwest winds have averages near thirty miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate above elevations of 8500'. Very soft surface slabs, expected to be shallow in the morning will increase in size and sensitivity as snowfall increases during the day. These slabs may be sensitive to skiers in very steep wind loaded terrain at the higher elevations. Backcountry travelers in the Togwotee Pass area have the potential to trigger deeper hard slabs to depths of four feet in steep terrain.
