Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Flat Top Mountains and Park Range. Very dangerous avalanche conditions will develop by Saturday night and last through the weekend.

You can trigger dangerous avalanches on steep west through north to easterly-facing slopes. You can trigger avalanches around a foot deep in the recent storm snow. You can also trigger a larger and more dangerous avalanche that breaks into weak layers buried two to four feet deep. You are most likely to trigger one of these deeper avalanches from an area of shallower snow, like near protruding rocks, bushes, or at the bottom of convex rollovers. You could trigger avalanches from a distance or below, so give yourself a wide margin around any steep slopes. If you see signs of unstable snow like cracking or collapsing, move to slopes less than about 30 degrees that are not connected to larger, steeper slopes above.
