The most dangerous slopes face northwest through north to east at upper elevations, generally above or near treeline. You can reduce your chances of being caught in a dangerous avalanche by simply avoiding travel on or under steep, large slopes facing these directions. If you are on steep south-facing slopes later in the day, be careful of small loose avalanches in the wet snow.
