Lo esencial

Dangerous avalanche conditions exist and human triggered avalanches are likely above 7500 feet. Snow that has fallen this week lies on a snowpack comprised of persistent weak layers. Cautious route finding and conservative decision making is essential. Below 7500 feet, avalanches are unlikely given shallow snow depths.

Slabs to two feet in depth lie on a variety of aspects over weak faceted snow. In many areas this fragile snowpack is also complicated by crust layers. These slabs are sensitive, could release on approach and could propagate long distances across terrain boundaries.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A winter weather advisory is in effect thru 2am Friday. During that time periods of heavy snow and strong southwest winds are expected. On Friday periods of light snow showers could linger with highs in the twenties. The general avalanche hazard will continue to be Considerable. New snow will add further stress to a snowpack that is weak and avalanches could be easily triggered by backcountry riders and skiers with depths to three feet on Friday. As weak faceted snow lies on all aspects, any steep slope where new snow has deposited is suspect.
