Snowpack

Thursday's and Friday’s fresh snowfall and wind have resulted in snowdrift accumulations, especially in the high Alpine regions. These are deepest on the northern Alpine ridge and in Grisons. The fresh and drifted snow will be prone to triggering. In some places, avalanches may also start in deeper layers of the snowpack. In those regions with fresh snow, moist loose snow avalanches are to be expected where conditions are sunny.

OutlookSunday and Monday

The nights to Sunday and Monday will sometimes be clear in the south, but elsewhere mostly cloudy. On Sunday, conditions will be cloudy in the north and there will be some light snowfall above 2400 m in the afternoon. There will be sunny intervals in the south. The zero-degree level will rise significantly to around 2800 m. On Monday, 10 to 20 cm of snow will fall above 2400 m. Conditions will be sunny in the south. The zero-degree level will be between around 2600 m in the north and 3000 m in the south. On both days, winds will be mostly light and, at hight altitudes, sometimes moderate from westerly directions.

The risk of dry avalanches in the high Alpine regions will decrease somewhat. Moist loose snow avalanches from the fresh snow will be possible where conditions are sunny.
