Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised deposits of fresh windslab will develop through the forecast period. Steep wind sheltered locations on North to East aspects above 750 metres will be most affected with some redistribution onto Westerly aspects from mid afternoon, however on Westerly aspects new deposits will overlie bare ground. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers throughout the period becoming more frequent towards the end of the afternoon. The freezing level will rise from around 400 metres to 600 metres. Strong West-South-Westerly winds overnight decreasing and becoming moderate Southerly during the day and backing South-Easterly increasing significantly from mid afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Showers became more frequent in the afternoon and fell as snow above around 500 metres. Winds were strong Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snow cover is well bonded and stable with a thin icy crust. Isolated pockets of shallow windslab are beginning to develop on North-East to South-East aspects above around 750 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
