Lo esencial

We have very little snow in our mountains.  What snow is out there, took a beating from last week's atmospheric river.  As a result, I am doubtful that Monday's rain will lead to much avalanche activity.

    Typically, warm, rainy weather leads to a substantial avalanche cycle.  I'm including Wet Avalanches in the problem list, although I think any avalanche activity is unlikely on Monday.  Currently, there are few patches of snow that are continuous enough to ride, or to avalanche.  The bigger snow fields that are out there have already seen a lot of rain during the last atmospheric river event.  Since then, they have refrozen into thick crusts.

Avalanche Discussion

I went for a tour (sans skis) up into the Sisters today.  There is no snow below 7,000 ft.  Higher up, you can begin to find strips in gullies and as you climb into the alpine there is more snow.  Still, there are too many rocks everywhere to provide pleasant riding except in a few spots.  I didn't see any avalanche debris from last week's rain, although I did see some glide cracks and maybe some smaller crowns.  Pictures of the Sisters are included below.  It was warm and windy today with increasing clouds; definitely could feel the next system moving in.  I hope we will all be riding by the end of the week!
