Avalanche Activity

A critical avalanche situation will be encountered over a wide area. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the often large wind slabs can be released easily or naturally.

A lot of new snow above approximately 2000 m. Avalanches can be released and reach large size in isolated cases. This applies in particular on sunny slopes, as well as on wind-loaded slopes above approximately 2000 m. From starting zones that have retained some snow in these regions the avalanches can reach the valleys and in some places endanger transportation routes that are exposed. At low and intermediate altitudes moist avalanches can penetrate even deep layers. The conditions are very dangerous for backcountry touring.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last three days above approximately 2000 m. A lot of new snow in the high Alpine regions. The sleet gave rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. As a consequence of new snow and wind, sometimes large wind slabs formed.

Tendency

The weather will be mostly sunny. These conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snowpack.
