Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the morning and increase to MODERATE at the higher elevations during the warmer portion of the day. Wet loose slides involving the recent new snow are possible on very steep slopes. These point slides could be triggered by skiers or riders or release naturally after temperatures rise. Some potential may also persist for snowmobilers to trigger deep wet slab avalanches in steep upper elevation avalanche paths with deeply buried layers of faceted snow. Evaluate terrain and conditions carefully and avoid steep terrain above an elevation of 9,000 feet where weak layers formed early in the season may persist. This is the last morning advisory of the season. Until mid-June the avalanche center will continue to operate its network of remote weather stations, post daily summaries of the data from those stations, post avalanche events and field observations. Weekly snowpack summaries will be posted on Friday mornings until May 27. Thank you for your valuable observations and support. Over two thirds of the costs of these advisories are derived from donations.

Some potential may remain for humans to trigger deep wet slab avalanches in very steep upper elevation avalanche paths during the heat of the day. These slabs could fail on buried layers of faceted snow and could step down to the ground.

At the higher elevations wet loose slides could be human triggered or release naturally after snow surfaces soften. These small slides could dig down gain volume and run long distances on very steep slopes.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Dry conditions with mostly clear skies are forecast. Temperatures will be slightly warmer on Sunday. Winds are anticipated to be gusty from the northeast. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW and could increase to MODERATE at the upper elevations during the warmest portion of the day. Shallow wet loose slides, involving the snow that fell on Thursday, are possible on very steep slopes. Evaluate terrain and conditions carefully and avoid terrain where even small slides can be consequential.
