At the upper elevations firm slabs to 10 inches in depth could be triggered by backcountry travelers in steep, lee slopes this morning. The incoming storm will begin to build easily triggered soft slabs at the mid and upper elevations by late afternoon. New slabs will develop on firm, wind-packed snow below ridge tops and along cross loading ridges. Be alert to rapidly changing conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.

Heavy snowfall is expected to continue into the evening then taper off by early Wednesday morning. Temperatures will fall to the mid teens by morning and only light snow is forecasted for the day. Winds will be southwesterly at 30 miles per hour during the snowfall event then slow and veer to westerly during the day Wednesday.Rapid snowfall and southwest winds will develop easily triggered or naturally releasing surface slabs to 18 inches in depth at upper and mid elevations by Wednesday morning. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable. Deeper slabs could be released by backcountry users on steep walls of bowls, near cliff bands or under cornices.
