Avalanche Summary

You are most likely to trigger an avalanche where winds drift stiff slabs of snow. These slabs will build quickest along gully edges, below ridgelines, and convex rolls. Look for and avoid rounded, firm, bulbous pillows of snow that may crack beneath you. On slopes with thinner snow cover, the avalanche you trigger at the surface could step down to weaker layers close to the ground. Reduce your hazard further by sticking to planar slopes without trigger points like rocks and trees. You can find safer riding on lower-angle slopes or slopes sheltered from the wind.
