Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs require caution.

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on steep slopes above approximately 2500 m, and in gullies and bowls. New snow and wind slabs can in some places be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. In some places new snow is lying on a hard crust. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised as well in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. Below approximately 2000 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Snowpack Structure

In some localities up to 50 cm of snow has fallen since yesterday above approximately 2000 m. The weather conditions gave rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2200 m. In addition sometimes large wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and in the high Alpine regions. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack.
