Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase in the afternoon.

Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. The prevalence of avalanche prone locations and likelihood of triggering will increase in the afternoon. In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, above the tree line: The new snow can be released easily or naturally in all aspects and generally above the tree line. Many small and medium-sized natural avalanches are possible. The current avalanche situation calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area over a wide area 15 to 30 cm of snow will fall until the afternoon above approximately 1500 m. The new snow will be deposited on a crust in particular on east to south to west facing aspects. Towards its base, the snowpack is largely stable; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. The new snow remains for the foreseeable future prone to triggering in all aspects and generally above the tree line.
